L&W Attorneys to Discuss Hidden Tax Issues

April is over, but taxes never go away.

On Thursday, June 12, Rick and Charles will be speaking from 8:00 to 10:00 am at a presentation hosted by Precision Payroll of America LLC on various things you may not realize your business is doing (or isn’t that it should) that can have big tax and other implications.

Rick will focus on the difference between independent contractors and employees, and how mis-categorizing who works for your business can have tax and payroll consequences.

Charles will focus on a relatively unknown provision of the Illinois tax code that requires e-commerce retailers to charge sales tax on shipping and handling charges for sales delivered to locations within Illinois.  Not charging the tax (or charging it when you shouldn’t) can expose your business to lawsuits by private attorneys general looking to uncover money for the State, or to class action lawsuits under consumer protection statutes.

This month’s posts (here and here) will give you a preview of these topics. Contact Aggie Rardin at Precision Payroll (630-887-3156) to register and for more information.

Also, on Tuesday, June 17, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Charles will be speaking at the Helen Plum Library in Lombard with local accountant David Maines. They will focus on the operational and tax differences between C-corps, S-corps, and LLCs.  Click here to register and to learn more.
