Employers Cannot Ask About Criminal History on Job Applications

Starting January 2015, a new Illinois law will prohibit criminal history questions on job applications.

Beginning in January, employers of 15 or more employees won’t be allowed to require prospective employees to disclose their criminal history on a job application.  The “Job Opportunities For Qualified Applicants Act,” which takes effect January 1, 2015, prohibits employers, with some exceptions, from inquiring into, considering, or requiring the disclosure of a job applicant’s criminal history or background on a job application.  Call us today to discuss how this new law may affect your hiring process.
